Yvonne Fried at Xchanges Gallery and Studios
Stranger in a Strange Land
Stranger in a Strange Land is an exhibition and
exploration of the urban landscape by photo and video artist Yvonne
Fried. The title also references the Robert Heinlen novel of the same
name, about a human who was raised on Mars and returns to earth as an
adult.
This show includes images from two bodies of work which explore themes of consumerism, urban decay, public vs. private spaces, and the tension between humans and nature. The artist finds the contemporary urban landscape to be an alien space which isolates us as much as it crowds us.

Rob Vickery at Moka House Coffee on Fort. St.
Rob Vickery Art Show
at Fort Street Moka House
Coffee
March 1 – 30,
2015
Throughout the month of
March at Fort Street Moka House Coffee, local artist Rob Vickery will exhibit
photography, mixed media and acrylic paintings. Works presented in this show are
primarily about the quality of light that comprises the physical world, yet hint
at a light within the self, and offer a glimpse of life’s subtle inner
nature.
Blending physically
recognizable objects found in nature with the play of light, Vickery's
photographic works contain subtle spiritual undertones, hinting that there might
be something more to this world worth appreciating. His mixed-media works are a mélange of
many qualities: subtle, quiet, introspective, silent; textured—both real and
implied, they reveal a narrative of physical rhythms and undercurrents, and
possibly of a greater awareness of being.
His art is in private collections in Canada, Thailand, Japan and
America.
Running until March
30th, the art show is a free community event, suitable for all ages
and family members.

Don Craig, Benoit Jansen-Raynaud and Matt Politano at Dales Gallery
Stealing Time
Don Craig, Benoit Jansen-Reynaud and Matt Politano
October 29 through November 26
Opening Reception Nov 4, 6-9pm
Dales Gallery is proud to present an unusual view of the world around us. Not content with capturing the world they see, artists Don Craig, Benoit Jansen-Reynaud and Matt Politano employ alternate exposure techniques to photograph motion and the passage of time, creating landscapes invisible to the human eye.
Stealing Time brings together three different but complementary ways of seeing – a collection of elegant enigmas that challenge our perceptions.
Silent Auction
Three
works will be up for auction and the proceeds will be donated to
Doctors without Borders. We invite you to drop by the Gallery in support
of a worthy cause.

Emma Palm at the Fifty Fifty Arts Collective
On June 26th, 2012, Emma's seventeen year old brother committed suicide.
In Memory is a product of love and longing, made in the wake of his death. Two series comprise this body of work in an incomplete attempt to catalogue what he left behind. As if gathering the remains of his life might keep him closer. A sweater, a t-shirt, a wooden box, a pair of soccer cleats - everyday objects elevated to reliquary status. Holy because he touched them. So too are these seven boys (or are they men?) facing the camera. Each hardened and softened in their own way by his passing. Wearing their grief with self-conscious bravery, and wielding more power than they know. Tissue paper maps of what might have been.
Emma Palm lives and works between the prairies of Alberta and Vancouver Island’s craggy coastline. As an artist she is interested in acts of remembrance, storytelling, collections, and archival processes. Her research-based work is grounded in the social exchange of memory and information. So far, her practice includes photography, video and installation.
Emma graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2013.
Gallery reception July 31st at 7-10PM
2516 Douglas Street.
Emma's show coincides with Victoria's very own Integrate Art Society (Integrate Arts Festival)
Also don't forget about the fifty fifty hosting the Integrate After party. Here's the event details https://www.facebook.com/ events/656998937683030/ ?ref_dashboard_filter=calen dar

Tamsin Clark at Deluge Contemporary Art
July 25 to August 23, 2014
If I Wore a Hat I'd Hang it Here
Tamsin Clark
Opening Friday, July 25, 7pm
"These Polaroids are the places and spaces I have lived over the last few years, indexes if you like, and like the writer William Faulkner in his novel Absalom Absalom they are reiterated over and over, windows, mirrors, bedrooms, gardens, landscapes. They are conversations I’ve had with these spaces and places. Because they are photographs they are also about light: the light and viewpoint can hide the flaws in the mundane and turn it into a thing of beauty, or at least a curiosity."
Tamsin Clark is an Anglo Canadian photographer and educator interested in the still and moving image. She received her BFA from the University of Saskatchewan and MFA from the University of Victoria. Clark has exhibited widely in Canada, Mexico and Europe and her work is held in various collections nationally. She currently resides in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.
