Luke Fair, Willie Seo, Charles Nasby, and Jaedan Leimert at the Fifty Fifty Arts Collective

ESC: Contemporary Art and Technology

Thu. April 11th - Sun. April 28th
This exhibition includes individual works from 3rd and 4th year students at the University of Victoria Visual Arts program; Luke Fair, Willie Seo, Charles Nasby, and Jaedan Leimert.

"Our perspective on computer technology is unique because we were born at the dawn of the digital age. As we witness the transition of analogue systems becoming obsolete to digital, we are able to observe how humans adapt and depend on these new technologies. We have found this parallels with the contemporary art practice as well. While collaborating with these technological inventions, we are attempting to capture and comment on this seemingly infinite segue into a digital world. Ultimately we do not know where this path will lead us, but that makes it all the more important to create works that document this moment in history."

Willie Seo & Shea Hermanson -Canada 人 Art Exhibition - at The Fifty Fifty Arts Collective

Canada 人  -  Artists: Willie Seo & Shea Hermanson

The project Canada 人 depicts Canada’s multiculturalism through a visual language that addresses both literal and metaphorical identities within Canadian society. Canada is noted for being the world’s most multicultural nation. Residents immigrate from all over the world to share land and build policies. In this project, we visualize the idea of multiculturalism in Canada based on a sampling of one hundred people from the population.

* 人: a Chinese word which pronounces as [in] and means people.

The Amazing Photography of Willie Seo at Fifty Fifty Arts Collective

In “Islander’s Mind”, Willie Seto explores different shapes of people’s experience through his own islander’s eye. Using digital photo manipulation, Willie's photos become geometric works of optical illusion that distort one's perception of scale and object. Through his work, moments become islands in space and time: each both unique and familiar.
Show runs from Jan. 29 to Feb 19, 2010
