Jan is a contemporary abstract artist who is greatly influenced by the abstract expressionist artists. She likes to layer bright bold strokes of colour to give a painting depth and intensity. Her pieces often start with a composition of shapes which leads to a sense of exploration.
Jan’s abstract paintings and mixed media work continuously evolve due to her personal changes, growth and inspiration. Her goals are to evoke a sense of energy and movement.
Jan’s paintings have appeared at the Metchosin Art Gallery, the LOOK Show, Artishow at the Empress Hotel, Arts Centre at Cedar Hill, Bowker Creek Brush-up Artist Show (juried), Goward House, Saanich Municipal Hall, Ministry of Health, Legacy Art Gallery and in Jiangmen, China. Her art education includes the Victoria College of Art, Art School Victoria, Blu Smith Art, Bill Porteous Studio, and the Metchosin International Summer School of Arts.
