Glenn Payan at West End Gallery

Island Life
April 2 to 14, 2016
opening reception: April 2 at 1 pm

"I like the idea of my art being a caricature of history. You'll notice my paintings are devoid of people. This is because they are paintings of the past. The people have left and moved on. What remains are homes and yards and lanes filled with memories. There are empty highways that were journeyed and quiet places that were once bustling and vibrant. In the meantime, our minds seem to have a way of caricaturizing our past, picking out the best moments, the most colourful moments, when the road was that much steeper, the adventure that much more dramatic, and the childhood family vacation simply the best one in history." – Glenn Payan 2016

Great Guzek at West End Gallery

Rod Charlesworth at West End Gallery

Rod Charlesworth, An Exhibition of New Oil Paintings, October 3 - 15
British Columbia’s Rod Charlesworth presents his 15th solo exhibition with the West End Gallery, opening Saturday, October 3. While acknowledging his education and technical training in Fine Art at the Okanagan University College in Kelowna, Rod largely considers himself self-taught. His vibrant patches of colour, the rugged terrain of the Western landscape, and snowy rinks with children at play capture a uniquely Canadian cultural identity. In this latest collection of paintings Rod has departed from his previous colour palette by making one small change to his under-painting, producing dramatic effects, resulting in fresh and vibrant new landscapes. “What initially inspired me to paint was how we all see the world differently. I wanted to create my own visual language that could be used to portray the Canadian landscape in all of its rugged subtleties”.

Join us for the opening reception Saturday, October 3 with artist in attendance from 1 to 4pm. Rod Charlesworth’s exhibition continues through October 15. All artwork is subject to presale. Please direct inquires to our Victoria gallery location. 877.388.0009 or via email art@westendgalleryltd.com

20th Anniversary Group Show at West End gallery

Please join us for our 20th anniversary exhibition in Victoria!

It is with gratitude, satisfaction and excitement that we are celebrating our 20th anniversary in Victoria, BC.  We want to thank our loyal clientele, as well as our family of artists, many of whom have been with us since our beginnings in the west end of Edmonton.  We also want to recognize the commitment of our longtime staff members Amy and Cole, also celebrating six years with the gallery and would like to welcome our new staff member Kristi.

For twenty years our gallery has grown and expanded - maintaining and acquiring an impressive stable of renowned, contemporary Canadian artists - many internationally recognized and considered important acquisitions to dedicated collectors.

To commemorate our anniversary milestone, we have organized a special group show.  Our participating artists have been commissioned to submit one major piece of fine art to commemorate our 20th Anniversary Exhibition.

Join us for the opening reception Saturday November 22 from 1 pm to 4 pm.  All artwork is subject to pre-sale and is visible on our website.  Please direct all artwork inquiries to our Victoria gallery 877.388.0009 or via e-mail art@westendgalleryltd.com

Paul Jorgensen at West End Gallery

At the Bridge 36x30

Paul Jorgensen - Just Down the Street

Paul Jorgensen has created a collection of bright and playful new paintings for his much anticipated solo exhibition. Playing with perspective and form, he enjoys the contrast between the natural world and the man-made. With a stranger, bird’s eye, perspective, he delights in painting glimpses; whether it’s a house, hedge, car or gate these images drift in and out of reality and memory. Featuring locations near and far, lush gardens, twisted paths, elongated shapes and detailed patterning he transports the viewer into his whimsical world. The resulting work has delighted and captivated collectors both locally and internationally.

I like work that involves imagination and technique, and that suggests stories... I hope my paintings give people a good feeling, that there might be a pleasant something on the wall.

Opening reception Saturday June 8. Artist in attendance between 1pm and 4pm.

Nixie Barton, Grant Leier & Tammy Hudgeon at West End Gallery

Nixie Barton, Grant Leier & Tammy Hudgeon :

West Coast’s Most Wanted

at

West End Gallery

Nixie Barton, Grant Leier and Tammy Hudgeon present a much anticipated exhibition of new works. Playing with colour and patterning they present a collection of exciting new West Coast imagery. Nixie continues to explore the encaustic medium. “I was drawn to this technique because of the transparency of the wax, the richness of the surface and the ability to scratch, burn, emboss, layer and fuse the materials”.  While Grant features a dramatic shift in his imagery. “I am pleased to be exhibiting with Tammy Hudgeon and Nixie Barton. My new work of animal based imagery is a marked departure from the paintings of the past twenty years; I feel I have learned as much about painting in the past six months as I did in the previous three decades. I am most excited about the multiple glazing and dragging of the canvas with transparent acrylic, the colours are enhanced and the mood of the piece is altered dramatically.”

Perfectly paired, Tammy Hudgeon completes this exciting exhibition with new fused glass works. Her West Coast inspired sculptures feature forests, salmon, bears and eagles, everything sacred to our coastal way of life.

Join us for the opening reception Saturday May 18 with artists in attendance from 1-4pm. Exhibition continues to May 30, 2013.

Irene Klar at West End Gallery

Painted Journeys
Irene Klar’s first exhibition in Victoria in over eleven years has finally arrived! This much
anticipated and highly praised collection of new works is inspired by the Indigenous Peoples of
the West Coast. Steeped in humanity, her paintings display bold colour and intricate attention
to textures and textile patterns. More than just carrying her blanket-wrapped figures, Irene
transforms the canoe into the foundation of each piece. As her style evolves closer to abstraction,
the canoe is deconstructed to it’s linear element and acts as a focal point.
