Paul MacIntyre at the Fifty Fifty Arts Collective

Although Measure by Measure is a collection of drawings and paintings, Paul MacIntyre is more interested in the qualities of his work that elude this categorization. Each piece is a product of a material investigation in which strict, self-imposed regulations are implemented in an attempt to make perceptible the abstract notions of organized time and space. In a deliberate, if ultimately futile, attempt to limit spontaneity using tools such as a metronome and a ruler, the resulting aesthetic pairs transcendent minimalism with a sense of systematic cartography. Furthermore, the artist’s interest in the delicate, imperfect beauty associated with the handmade supplements the mathematical austerity of his mostly achromatic exhibition.

Born in Whitehorse, Yukon and raised on Vancouver Island, Paul MacIntyre is a University of Victoria BFA graduate and will be starting his MFA in Studio Arts at the University of Guelph in September. Measure by Measure is his first solo exhibition.
