The notion of the human strike emerged out of the context of Italian feminism in the 1970s. It is an all-encompassing form of action challenging the fundamental contours of everyday life, moving through the politics of labour to the level of human social reproduction. An explication of the human strike can be found in these texts, available online, by Claire Fontaine:
Human Strike Within the Field of Libidinal Economy and Ready-Made Artist and Human Strike: A Few Clarifications.
Please also visit the exhibition Carelessness Causes Fire at the Audain Gallery, the first solo exhibition in Canada by Claire Fontaine, running until December 22, 2012. Carelessness Causes Fire is realized with the support of the Consulat général de France in Vancouver.
