The Victoria Chapter, with 150 members from Sooke to the Gulf Islands, offers regular programs and workshops designed to raise artistic standards by stimulating participants to greater heights of achievement.

  Each year in the spring and fall, the Chapter holds a show juried by FCA signature members (those who have attained high standing in the Federation). Approximately 100 paintings are submitted, with one third to one half selected for the show. Jurors look for the "wow" factor, good composition, mastery of the artist's medium and technique, and originality of style. The result is a first class exhibition, varied in style and media, featuring the best works of 30 ~ 40 of the region's top artists

Elfrida Schragen at Goward House Gallery

Elfrida Schragen is a well-known, successful Victoria artist who has worked and shown in oil, pastels and sculpture. She has sold in both Canada and the United States and Europe. Her style is versatile and skilled - from landscapes to still life. Elfrida has filled many commissions for portraits of people and pets. She has completed a charitable project of painting portraits of the homeless to support ‘Our Place’ shelters and currently is taking commissions for individual portraits. Her work has been shown in galleries throughout southern Vancouver Island.

The Peninsula Plein Air Painters at Goward House

This group was founded around 1990 and many original members are still participating. These painters come together weekly to paint on site, have lunch and critique each other's work. All artists are local and some are recognized career artists. They create images taken primarily from the Saanich Peninsula and Victoria area. Employing media of either acrylic, oil or watercolour, each artist uses their own unique style and approach to painting. Sharing their individual techniques and experiences with each other often results in a higher standard of personal accomplishment and collective confidence.
