Artist Call - The Massey Gallery - AGGV

Art Rental & Sales Massey Gallery, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria

Artist Call for Entries
Black & White Essentials – The Practice of Drawing
A Show & Sale of small* works on paper (no mats, no mounting)

Thursday, February 13th – Monday, Mar 3rd
Opening Reception – Saturday, Feb 15th from 2 - 4pm

The purpose of the show is promote the diversity and importance of drawing in contemporary fine art practice both as an intimate art form in its own right and as an essential foundation for other art forms.  The work will be hung on clipboards.

The purpose of clipboards in the gallery setting is to create an informal, accessible look.
As well, we are partnering with Prestige Framing in Oak Bay who are offering a substantial discount to purchasers and artists on custom framing, to encourage framing of the work after the show.

Prestige will also frame a drawing and put it on display to help the public understand how contemporary works on paper are treated.

We also want to make the show an experiential engagement with drawing for viewers, therefore drawing materials will be available for the public to use during their visit.

Criteria
Open to any media involving the practice of drawing including traditional drawing media – pencil, graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, oil stick, print making, etc. but could also include new digital media.

  • *unframed and non matted work will be mounted and shown on clipboards.
  • size is limited to  work that will fit on a standard letter size clipboard – 9” x 12” or 9” x 15”

Note:  Clipboards will hang vertically, not horizontally.  Working with standard drawing paper: 19 x 24 – means 2 half sheets will work as would 4 quarter sheets.

Works must be on paper, representative of high quality drawing, created within the last two years.  Work never shown at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria in any form will be given preference.
Artists may submit up to six pieces of work for consideration.

NEW! - Each entry must be accompanied by a $2 processing fee. The fee helps offset a portion of the costs associated with producing, hanging and the reception.

Work chosen is consigned with a 50/50 split on sales.

As much as possible, work that is sold will be replaced by additional work by that same artist.

For this show only, digital images will not be required.

Please bring pieces for consideration to Art Rental and Sales (rear entrance) on Saturday, Feb 1 between 10am and 5 pm.

Each piece of work must be in a clear sleeve for protection during the jury process and storage.  The work, when hung, will not be under plastic.  Paper work will be handled by qualified staff only during mounting on clipboard. Please attach the fee to the sleeve.
