Alanna Ho is a contemporary composer and
visual artist in Vancouver. Interested in various mediums, she uses an
interdisciplinary approach to create audiovisual experiences. She
experiments with collected sounds and discarded materials in her works.
In her compositions, she explores the presence and awareness of the
human body, in its natural and meditative state. Ho derives her interest
of spontaneity and time-based works, from her frequent practice of
painting large scale abstract works in an improvisational state. She is
interested in the dialogue between the materials' natural tendencies,
and its changes of character when married with another material. With a
personal connection in meditation and peaceful practices, Ho
instinctively develops reflective and free-flowing gestures in her
works. In recent works, her performers undergo meditation and imagery
exercises, to effectively enhance attentive listening and fluidity of
the sounds they produce.
