Shawn O'Keefe - February 2013 - Artist of the Month !

China Beach Trial - Acrylic and Aerosol on canvas - 50"x25"
Creator Masks - Acrylic and Aerosol on reclaimed wood

Born and raised in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, on the coast of
British Columbia, Shawn found his passion for art & design at an early age. His mother,a gifted artist herself, encouraged him to pursue his love of drawing.

Following his studies in Applied Arts at Malaspina University, Shawn found a new home in Victoria where he worked as a graphic artist at a silk screening company building his creative skillset and working with clients to realize their visions. During this period he began to work on his own freelancing and developing his own style of painting combining the art of silk screening, illustration, and graffiti with traditional painting techniques.

Mixing the old with the new, and working in a variety of styles and mediums Shawn has found a way to incorporate his love of graphic design with his passion for painting. Pursuing the further development of process Shawn also found comradery within a trio of artists known as the Woodpile collective. Together they have gained international recognition for both the work itself and their distinct process of painting together on the same canvas; Six hands and three minds working in a free flowing unconscious synchronicity.  Shawn continues to paint with the Woodpile collective and independently in Victoria BC. You can also see his Graphic design and illustration on every Phillips Brewing Company product.
