Joe Coffey at Winchester Galleries in Oak Bay

" Chasing Peacocks "
 Joe Coffey
 Oct. 9 to 27, 2012

Joe Coffey was born in Caledon East, Ontario. At the time a more rural community then what exists now, Joe grew up surrounded by some of the imagery you see in his work today. Self described as an extroverted introvert, he sees his creative process and the results as a way to figure out his place in and relation to the world and people around him.  While his draughtsmanship might present you with an obvious definite visual at first blush, his work is deeply personal in fact.  A theatrical tableau hinting at the visceral and offering the esoteric if so inclined. Ultimately Coffey wants his work to reflect the overall solitary human condition we all must traverse, a reflection of ourselves rather then any particular subject.
Joe has been devoting himself full time to his career for 15 years with galleries in Victoria, Vancouver and Calgary.  He is self taught and is happiest when left alone to paint himself into a stupor.

“All my subjects whether animal or human are merely actors -- an ends to a means to try and convey a moment that moves me in a personal way”.
