"Not so Easy street" at The Fifty Fifty Arts Collective
“Not So Easy Street” and its counterpart show “Easy Street” will look at challenge as well as success in life through the eyes of a mixed group of Victoria and Edmonton artists. This traveling show will start in Victoria, B.C. for a three week exhibit at the Fifty Fifty Arts Collective, then will move to a converted off-sight space in Edmonton, AB.
Each artist was asked to tackle a personal struggle of their choice. The ran...ge of dilemmas is broad and not limited too: communication breakdowns, unnecessary anxieties, lack of time, not getting into the NHL, or simply falling in love too much. This show aims to translate personal challenge into either a dismal, or light-hearted response.
In asking artists from both cities to participate, we are looking at not only a personal challenge, but also the challenge between two cities. It is likened to being 10 years old, sitting in p.j.’s, playing ninja turtles video games saying, “my turtles colour is better than your turtles colour” and in virtue of having chosen it, your own colour always wins the debate. Our city is better, because we’ve chosen it.
Whichever side you choose in the face-off, we’re all in it together, each embedded in our own little challenge. Not So Easy Street/Easy Street, bring two Western Canadian cities together to have therapy.
