Joseph Plaskett at Winchester Galleries on Humboldt St.
Every work of art has its own story to tell, not in words, but in visual images. They tell something about the character of the artist, what things he sees with his eyes and falls in love with. Subject matter is only incidental. The painting lives by its own singular vitality. What makes one painting eloquent and another fail? There is no formula for what makes it come alive. There is always a mystery. Success comes when something miraculous happens. The painter sees the world in his own private way. Each painting has to say something that has never been said before. To use the word "beauty" tells us something. There is not only beauty – there is also truth and reality. The artist must be constantly questioning. Opening Reception Sat. Sept. 11, 2010 from 2 to 4pm
