EXHIBITION
KILLER PAINTINGS by James Lindsay
July 17-25 2010
549½ and 553½ Fisgard Street, Victoria. BC
KILLER PAINTINGS is a two-in-one show of recent works by Victoria artist James Lindsay. This double-header will take place in two separate exhibition spaces (Studio 302 & #302) on the two sides of the same heritage Chinatown building where he has lived and worked for more than 25 years. Lindsay’s own studio will also be open, displaying large works such ENCRYPTOMATONS (2004), and DEFENDING STALINGRAD (1986).
James Lindsay has lived and worked as an artist in Victoria since 1974. His works are represented in public and private collections including The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, The Canada Council Art Bank, The Province of British Columbia Art Collection, and the UVic Maltwood Art Museum and Gallery.
On exhibit in Studio 302, 553½ Fisgard Street is POLITICAL LANDSCAPES (2006-07). Using the mapmaker’s adjective of “political” boundaries and regions as metaphor, Lindsay painted this group of 11 landscapes that lay bare the politico/military manipulations and intrusions of nations into other nations causing the destruction/death of the social, cultural, and economic life of the affected nations.
On the other side of the building, in #302, 549½ Fisgard Street is a showing of over 40 paintings from the last two years. Many of the larger works feature environmental life or death themes, including BC OIL & GAS, TOMS LAKE, and NEW ARCTIC LANDSCAPES.
Lindsay invites you to visit KILLER PAINTINGS on the two weekends the show is open, JULY 17-18 and JULY 24-25. Weekday visits by appointment at 250 380 7687 or jameslindsayart@yahoo.ca.
