Born in Carmel, California on June 17, 1971, Ronald Markham has enjoyed travelling to different parts of the world, studying the art and history of many places, with a particular interest in ancient cultures.
“Many things have inspired me as an artist. One of the biggest influences on my work is “Shamanic” art, which includes the art of pre-historic Europe and the Middle East as well as African, Polynesian, and native American art. In addition to this I would also include the art of ancient civilizations such as Egyptian, Sumerian, Meso-American, etc…
Closer to the present era, some of my favourite artists are Picasso, Escher, Elvgren, Monet, and Haring. These are the guys who made me want to be a painter. Of course I can not deny that contemporary popular culture in general has made me who I am today; the world that I live in and all I perceive in our particular age location. Everything from music to architecture, from video games to religious symbols has all had an impact on me.
I have always been interested in mysterious places, other realms, different dimensions, and the exploration of the universe. These kinds of themes are often featured in my paintings.”
