The Silver Tear |
Ken Flett
Photographs never disclose the whole story. As a marker, a moment in time the single image lacks the events that surround it, the history. As a surface a photograph is flat but looking into an image sometimes takes you far away into a moment lost in time yet suspended. Ken Flett’s work suspends time and allows for the history surrounding the image to emerge through the layers of detrius applied to the photographic surface. Starting with base of a photograph the artist uses a variety of means to tell the complicated story of humanity. Though these images speak mainly about the artist in relation to that humanity.A graduate of the Alberta College of Art with a major in photographic arts, Ken has exhibited extensively across British Columbia and other locations including Prague and the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse. He has participated in a residency in Mexico City and a winter residency on a cattle farm in Rolla, BC. As well as being a mentor at the 1999 Festival of the Arts, Ken was invited to the 2004 Children’s Art Festival in Singapore where he introduced “shoe box art” to hundreds of young people.
Ken has inspired other artists by generously sharing his knowledge and technical expertise in workshops, artist talks and multi-media presentations.
