On May 14th, the BALCONY gallery @ Xchanges opens with it's first installation, the Ruffle. A 100 foot long confection made of pink tulle, the Ruffle presides over a concrete parking lot usually reserved for auto-mechanics and carpet cleaning vans. Within this context, the Ruffle flirts with the old sexual stereotypes; the Ruffle is feminine, just as cars and concrete are masculine. the Ruffle is a pretty, quirky and thought-provoking comment on the role of the nonsensical in a practical space.
The Ruffle runs until June 10th at 2333 Government Street.
