In the mid-1800’s in Paris, artists were experimenting with exciting new approaches to art, but could not show their work in public unless they were accepted into the established Salons (galleries). Many of the works the Salons rejected at the time are still considered great art today, and might be unknown except that in 1863, Emperor Napoléon III decreed that the rejected artists could exhibit their works in a “Salon des Refusés” adjacent to the regular Salon, "Wishing to let the public judge...”, and whole new schools of art emerged.
We invite you to our Salon des Refusés for a chance to see for yourself works that have not been included in other local shows. Now you can be the judge!
