Grant Watson -February 2010-Artist of The Month !
I take great comfort in knowing that one minute of latitude equals one nautical mile. The logic feels so right. On the other hand, why does the English language prescribe the adjective before the noun? “…[F]our or five bowl-like shapes with outward-flaring sides and crimpled or crinkled rims, clustered like bunches of fantastic flowers”. Adjectives literally attack to catch up and decorate the Chihuly bowl, described by art critic David Bourdon.Further to the topic of adornment, why doesn’t the spandex-clad cyclist return my greeting, unless I too am riding in like fashion, ready for the Mayday parade?
I believe, for the most part, my work is subject to the issues and events that surround me directly, and in content, further responds to personal nebulous points of assessment.
My aspiration as an artist is to re-present an underlying vein of significance, or call it a ‘reference of truth’, disguised within life’s dualities, inherent in our constant game of charades.
