Marie Nagel grew up in Swift Current, Saskatchewan and is now a Victoria resident. She brings that awareness of prairie light to her landscape paintings. As Linda Rogers has noted, "Her paintings, influenced by Van Gogh and the Canadian Group of Seven, are characterized by bold brushstrokes and post- impressionist chiaroscuros". Her imagery of our West Coast landscapes and gardens are semi-abstract with a wonderful sense of colour illuminating the canvas. She evokes spontaneity in her en plein air work.
