Harold Coego on his own words !
Rediscovering myself as a full time plastic artist (after swimming for long time in the forms of the stage and celluloid) I want with this series of drawings and collage with monetary currency divide my life in Cuba where I was surrounded by historical and currents heroes—perfect human beings trapped in their own historical circumstances and my life in a new country with new characters and new human interactions. Most of the characters represented in the bills were introduced to me in a very “pure” way when I was a child and trough my adolescence. Now 30 years later and living in a different country I’ve given some of them the chance to break up their own “historical frame” and wander free in an abstract world of ink and irony where they have become a commodity.
It is not easy to navigate in a new and unfamiliar place some of the characters in this new place use masks to hide their incomprehension of the situation they are living, Even though they have human characteristics and some type of knowledge, they are not ready for the dynamics of their society or they accept it in a strange way and struggle with their own aesthetics. These images are representations of my imagination trough and abstract cinematographic kaleidoscope. They are visible like music to the eye, telling us a story, a twisted photocopy of reality or perhaps more like a dream where something is always out of place.
May 30 is your last chance to see his exhibit !!
